Stephen Royster is an advisory partner with KSM Location Advisors. He helps clients navigate the multistate tax landscape by advising on state tax law changes, ensuring tax-efficient structuring, and providing macro-level analyses of state tax implications.
In addition to his role with KSM Location Advisors, Stephen is a partner in Katz, Sapper & Miller’s State and Local Tax Group. His deep knowledge of state and local taxes in all 50 states enables him to effectively consult with multistate clients across the country. He has significant experience assisting clients in many industries, including manufacturing and distribution, financial services, life sciences, retail, transportation, and logistics.
Prior to joining KSM Location Advisors, Stephen worked for a Big 4 accounting firm as well as a top 10 accounting firm, where he spent a combined total of 14 years specializing in state and local taxes. He has extensive experience with state tax refund reviews, restructuring planning, analysis of complex state tax issues, and multistate tax compliance.
EDUCATION
Stephen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Butler University.
ASSOCIATIONS AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Stephen is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Indiana CPA Society. He also serves on the Indiana Manufacturers Association’s Tax Committee. Stephen was a finalist for Junior Achievement of Central Indiana’s Best and Brightest award in 2020.
